About the Center

The Yoga Wellness Center in Mars Hill, NC located inside of the Mars Hill Massage and Health Center is a full-service holistic health facility dedicated to the promotion of health and prevention of illness.

We work in concert with your conventional healthcare physician’s recommendation to promote balance and harmony in the body, mind, and spirit. We believe that this balance will not only remedy the symptoms of disease but also remove the root causes of them by tapping into the great natural healing power of the body.

The center has offices for a medical doctor, a mind-body specialist, a nutritionist/dietician, and a massage therapist. The team will be able to treat acute conditions with the necessary conditions while managing chronic disorders with mind-body therapies and lifestyle modifications. Here are photos of our lobby, reception area, and our yoga therapy hall.

Although we can label health disorders by name (hypertention, diabetes, etc.) and categorize patients accordingly, it is our belief that the health condition of every individual is unique and depends on their lifestyle habits, background, and natural tendencies. For this reason, our coaching is tailored to each individual in one-on-one sessions. The progress of the therapy is also based on the pace that is comfortable for the client.

The center is conveniently located in Mars Hill, only few minutes from Mars Hill University and a short drive from Asheville.

Abbas Rakhshani, PhD

Dr. Rakhshani received his bachelor’s degree from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL and his Master’s degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. He lived and worked in the Tampa Bay area from 1977 to 2000. In 1995 he developed severe herniated discs in the lumbar and cervical region due to working long hours at the computer station.

He was advised by his orthopedic doctor that unless he gets surgery, he runs the risk of losing the use of his legs due to spinal compression.

Surgery was not an option for him and he began researching alternative solutions.

His search led him to yoga, which eventually took him to India in 2000. In 2003 he obtained his yoga teacher certificate from the Sivananda International Institute of Yoga. He then enrolled in a six year doctoral program in yogic sciences.

The doctoral degree in yogic sciences is based on the study of the Vedic literature as related to preventive and mind-body medicine and is closely related to Ayurvedic medicine. The Vedas are Indian scriptures that are filled with medical, astrological, spiritual, and scientific guidelines for the wellbeing of the mind, the body, and the spirit. In North Carolina, he is a licensed massage & body work therapist (license # 15738) and spiritual health coach (license # 1452).

He moved back to the USA in 2012 and established The Yoga Wellness Center, which offers mind-body and massage therapies based on Ayurvedic and Yogic sciences.

Our Mission Statement

To provide complementary and mind-body therapies to:

1) Promote health of the body, mind, and spirit in the community;

2) Promote preventive care;

3) Offer solutions to complement existing management of chronic ailments, and

3) Build a bridge between allopathic and holistic healthcare care in Asheville.

Limitations

In spite of overwhelming scientific data in favor of yoga as a mind body medicine, many states, including the state of North Carolina, still don’t offer proper licensing to yoga therapists. This limits our services.

Basically, we can teach you practices to help you better manage your disorder and guide you on ways to uproot their cause. This will often involve coaching you on making certain lifestyle modifications, changes, or improvements. However, we are not licensed to prescribe medications, make any changes to your existing prescription, diagnose your ailment or medically treat them. Only your medical doctor can do those. Yet, we are confident that our training and coaching if practiced properly, will complement your existing medical treatment and improve your quality of life dramatically.

If you are in favor of natural and holistic medicine, we encourage you to read the articles about ‘natural health freedom laws’ that we have listed in the LIBRARY page of our site and voice your support for it.
