Many Americans, nearly 40 percent, use health care approaches developed outside of mainstream Western medicine for specific conditions or overall well-being. [Source: NCCAM] When describing health approaches with non-mainstream roots, people often use the words “alternative” and “complementary” interchangeably, but the two terms refer to different concepts and NCCAM further defines them as:
- “Complementary” generally refers to using a non-mainstream approach together with conventional medicine.
- “Alternative” refers to using a non-mainstream approach in place of conventional medicine.
The Mind-Body Therapies and Life Coaching at The Yoga Wellness Center are “Complementary” in nature. We use yoga postures, yogic breathing, meditation, yogic cleansing techniques, Ayurvedic massage with herbal oil, guided imagery, visualization, and sound resonance techniques to bring you back to true wellness. We also offer spiritual health counseling for those who are interested.
We encourage you to view the video at the bottom of our home page published by NCCAM for better insight into our therapies.
